At Goodman JFS, we are constantly inspired by the generosity and commitment of our supporters. Today, we are thrilled to share a special story about Dan and Nicole, a couple who chose to make a donation to our organization in lieu of wedding favors. Their touching gesture not only highlights their kindness but also emphasizes the profound impact our community can make when we come together. In this Q&A, Dan and Nicole share their journey with Goodman JFS and the experiences that have deepened their commitment to our mission.

How long have you been a supporter of Goodman JFS?

Dan & Nicole: We’re still fairly new to the organization as we started delivering groceries this past December, but the experience has been incredibly rewarding in the short time that we’ve had the opportunity to support.

What first inspired you to support Goodman JFS?

Dan & Nicole: A friend of ours told us about her work with Goodman JFS and invited us to join her in making deliveries one Sunday. We had a wonderful time and saw what a big difference just a few hours of our time could make. We knew we wanted to get involved right then and there.

Can you share a specific moment or experience that reinforced your commitment to Goodman JFS?

Dan: I was born in Brooklyn but am a native Russian speaker as my parents emigrated here in the 80s from the Soviet Union. The majority of the deliveries we’ve made have been to Russian-speaking senior citizens. Seeing their faces light up when I ask, “Vy govorite po russki?” [Do you speak Russian?] has been incredible. We always take a few minutes to chat with them in Russian (Nicole is learning a few words here and there), and it brings us so much joy to see their smiles.

How do you feel your contributions are making a positive impact on our community?

Dan & Nicole: Being able to contribute with not only our money but also our time has given us courtside seats to the impact that we’re making. It’s a privilege to be able to provide support to those who need it most. Seeing the smiles and gratitude of those we’re able to support reaffirms our belief in the power and ability of just a few people and a few hours to make a massive difference.

In your opinion, what makes our organization unique or stand out among other causes?

Dan: The cause is very personal to me as I had numerous relatives pass away in the Soviet Union due to starvation and hunger. The sanctity and comfort of food is not lost on us, and we know how much of a big difference one meal can make.

What message do you have for others who may not be aware of the impact they can make by supporting Goodman JFS?

Dan & Nicole: The best day to get involved is yesterday. The JFS staff, volunteer community, and beneficiaries of their services are truly one of a kind.

Dan and Nicole’s story is a beautiful reminder of the difference we can all make when we choose to support our community. Their generosity, both in time and donations, exemplifies the spirit of Goodman JFS. We are incredibly grateful for their support and excited to see the continued impact they will have on the lives of those we serve.

If you feel inspired by Dan and Nicole’s story, we encourage you to join us. Whether it’s through volunteering, donating, or spreading the word, every effort counts and contributes to the betterment of our community.

Together, we can make a difference.
