The Quittman Holiday Gift Fund Raised $25,000January 11th, 2017 - Brett Diaz
Megan is a Goodman JFS client currently receiving services through our emergency financial assistance program. On September 3, 2016, Megan’s husband passed away unexpectedly. With one less income, and a young child to support, Megan struggled with funeral expenses and bills that piled up quickly. Her situation became dire when she could not afford the rising costs of her utility bills and was unable to pay her rent. Seeing Megan’s desperation, a friend urged her to call Goodman JFS. We provided assistance with paying Megan’s rent and utility bills for three months to help her get back on her feet.
About to face her first holiday season without her husband, Megan was sad that she did not have money to buy Chanukah gifts for her 3-year-old daughter. Goodman JFS provided Megan with gift cards from our Quittman Holiday Gift Fund, which allowed her the dignity of purchasing a few toys for her little girl.
Her daughter’s joy on Chanukah was priceless.
The Samuel and Beatrice Quittman Holiday Gift Fund was established at Goodman JFS by Mark and Brittney Mothner in honor of his maternal grandparents to ensure that no child is left out during the holidays. This year we received more than $25,000 in donations, gift cards and toys, nearly tripling our donations from the previous year. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we helped more than 1,000 children experience joy this holiday season.
