May is Mental Health Awareness MonthMay 5th, 2017 - Brett Diaz
Goodman Jewish Family Services is the leading provider of quality mental health counseling services in Broward County. JFS believes in the importance of educating people about habits and behaviors that may increase the risk of developing or exacerbating a mental illness. Unfortunately, there is still somewhat of a stigma attached to mental illness, and many people are judged based upon the symptoms of their particular illness, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD and many others.
Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed every May since 1949. This month of awareness has successfully reached millions of people throughout the United States, minimizing the stigmatism that was associated with it. An estimated 26 percent of Americans ages 18 and older – about one in four adults – suffer from a diagnosable mental illness each year.
The counseling and behavioral health program at Goodman Jewish Family Services of Broward provides high-quality mental health services in a sensitive and supportive environment. We are also out in the community making presentations that promote awareness, as well as advocate for treatment and recovery.
Throughout the month of May, Goodman JFS will feature statistics, advice and success stories that will inspire and motivate others to seek treatment.
