The Cupboard Mission Statement
The mission of The Cupboard is to alleviate hunger in the Jewish community of Broward County by soliciting, collecting, providing and, where necessary, delivering food directly to, and in conjunction with, all the agencies that serve this diverse population. Our goal is to reduce and hopefully, eliminate food insecurities that too many of our neighbors deal with daily.
Our Objective
The Cupboard will serve those in the Jewish Community throughout Broward County, Florida who have been identified as food insecure, live at or below 150 percent of the poverty line, and do not have the resources to provide nutritional meals for themselves or their families.
Each potential recipient will meet with a JFS professional who will perform a comprehensive evaluation to assess the family’s overall needs. The need for food is often a symptom of underlying crises in the family and the JFS staff will be available to provide information about government benefits, or access to one of JFS’ many ancillary programs.
Recipients will be able to select from kosher, non-perishable staples and canned goods and fresh produce, and chicken, meat, and frozen items, as available. They will ‘shop’ during pre-arranged, scheduled appointments to ensure privacy and confidentiality. The Cupboard will supply critically important food items and other daily necessities, as well as evaluate clients’ overall needs and arrange for appropriate support services. Because dignity is of the utmost concern, private one-on-one appointments will be scheduled at convenient times.
